India's solar industry has been making significant strides towards becoming a leading player in the global market. According to data released by the US Department of Commerce, the country's export of solar cells and modules reached $463.8 million (approximately Rs. 38,600 crore) in the second quarter of 2023, recording a remarkable growth of 169% YoY. Although the figures did experience a 3.1% QoQ decline from the previous quarter, components comprised an overwhelming 98% of the total export volume of the country's solar products.

A closer look at the export scenario shows that India's solar product exports in the first half of 2023 witnessed an incredible YoY increase of 2696.4%. This remarkable growth is indicative of the tremendous strides that the country's solar industry is making, not just in terms of domestic uptake but also in terms of international recognition.
One of the key drivers of this growth has been India's ambitious target of achieving 100 GW of solar energy by 2022. The Indian government's efforts to encourage solar entrepreneurship and promote the viability of solar as a viable and cost-effective alternative to conventional energy sources have also been instrumental in shaping the industry's trajectory.
